高通是高速LTE调制解调器的主要供应商,MWC上高通与其合作伙伴展示了其产品应用。
例如高通与三星、韩国运营商SK电讯、KT电信合作,使得改装后的三星Note3在高速LTE模式下理论下载速度达到300Mbps。这款Note3采用了高通的骁龙805处理器及Gobi 9x35调制解调器。
高通Gobi调制解调器应用的另一个案例时中兴的Flare移动热点,该产品于周二发布,并将于今年下半年开始出货。Flare的下载速度也可达到300Mbps,为了最大限度的利用上行速度,Flare移动热点采用MIMO天线技术集成了802.11ac。

Chip vendors and device makers are readyingthe smartphones, hotspots and cars that will let users eventually enjoy higherdownload speeds with LTE-Advanced.
New smartphones got most of the attentionat Mobile World Congress. However, show visitors could also find displays ofmany technologies users will have to wait a little longer for, but in the endmight enjoy more.
One of these is LTE-Advanced, whichconsists of a number of different technologies designed to help improveperformance, the most important of which is carrier aggregation. It allowsnetworks to devote more resources to some users by treating two or morechannels in the same or different frequency bands as if they were one.
A glimpse of the future
Qualcomm is the dominant vendor of themodems that will power devices used to access LTE-Advanced networks, andworking with a number of different vendors the company showed what its productscan do in Barcelona.
For example, in cooperation with SamsungElectronics and Korean operators SK Telecom and KT, Qualcomm conducteddemonstrations of LTE-Advanced connectivity with download speeds of up to atheoretical 300Mbps (bits per second) on a specially modified Samsung GalaxyNote 3 smartphone.
The Galaxy Note 3 had been customized witha Snapdragon 805 processor and Qualcomm"s Gobi 9x35 modem.
Another product that uses one of Qualcomm"sGobi modems is ZTE"s Flare mobile hotspot, which was announced on Tuesday andwill start shipping during the second half of the year. It can also achievedownload speeds at up to 300Mbps. To make the most out of the fast uplink, thehotspot also has integrated support for 802.11ac with MIMO antenna technology.
Qualcomm also wants car makers to integratecarrier aggregation into their vehicles, and this week announced a version ofthe Gobi family for that sector, which is currently available in small volumesto potential customers. But the company didn"t elaborate on when the first carswith LTE-Advanced would arrive.
Intel also wants its modems used inupcoming LTE-Advanced products. On Monday the chip maker announced the XMM 7260platform, which will be used in products by the end of June. At Mobile WorldCongress, the company demonstrated an unmarked carrier aggregation smartphone.
The speed offered by carrier aggregationdepends on how much spectrum mobile operators use. Two channels with 20MHzchannels each are needed to reach 300Mbps, but Intel expects operators willimplement 20MHz plus 10MHz before then, to get download speeds of up to225Mbps.
Current LTE networks use one channel with10MHz or 20MHz of spectrum.
SK Telecom and LG Uplus in South Korea arealready offering commercial carrier aggregation services with speeds of up to150Mbps. That speed can also be achieved with 20MHz of continuous spectrum inone band, which is kinder on batteries. But for the many operators that don"thave that, the Korean configuration of two times 10MHz is a big step forward.
Larger network operators such as AT&T,Sprint, Telefónica, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone, as well as operators holdingmultiple spectrum positions such as EE, T-Mobile, Telstra, will be earlyimplementers of carrier aggregation, according to market research companyAnalysys Mason.
